Niagara County Recognizes Galassi’s Sub Shop as “Neighborhood Business of the Month”

The Niagara County Legislature has honored Galassi’s Sub Shop as its “Neighborhood Business of the Month” for September. The company, located on Payne Ave. in North Tonawanda, is a long-time staple of the community, serving a broad array of subs, pizza, homemade chicken wing logs and its famous Nite-Mare sub.  The award was presented by Niagara County Legislators Rich Andres and Randy Bradt along with Niagara County Economic Development Commissioner Andrea Klyczek.

“For generations, Galassi’s has been serving great food to North Tonawanda families, becoming a familiar and beloved part of the community,” said Legislator Andres. “But what truly sets Galassi’s apart is its deep commitment to giving back and supporting North Tonawanda as it has proudly done for decades.”

The business was founded in 1969 by the late Larry and Rose Galassi and is currently owned and operated by their daughter, Gail.   Since its inception, Galassi’s has been a strong supporter of the community, particularly for local athletic teams.  Larry was very involved as both a coach and sponsor for many years, leading North Tonawanda to name a municipal softball diamond in his honor.  Today, Gail continues her family’s longstanding tradition, with a wall in Galassi’s devoted to many of the sports team they have sponsored over the years.

“North Tonawanda is fortunate to have a tremendous number of great restaurants, but standing the test of a time is the challenge,” said Legislator Bradt.  “Galassi’s has been successful for more than five decades which not only speaks to the great food and service, but the commitment of the Galassi family to this community and the community’s fondness for them.”

The “Neighborhood Business of the Month” recognition program to highlight businesses that contribute to the county's economy and enhance the quality of life. The award is open to any for-profit business located in Niagara County, with a particular focus on small, locally-owned businesses. Nominations are accepted year-round and will remain eligible for consideration in future months. Anyone can submit a nomination by completing the online form at https://forms.gle/QeprKwwQ6KTnVUaLA or by visiting www.niagaracountybusiness.com.
