USBE has opened a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Local Food for Schools Cooperative Contracts, crea

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is seeking Utah beef and tree fruit producers interested in selling their products to schools across the state. USBE has opened a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Local Food for Schools Cooperative Contracts, creating an opportunity for Utah producers to become approved vendors for school meal programs.

There are over 660,000 students in Utah, presenting a major opportunity to expand market access for producers while bringing more locally grown food into Utah schools.

Approved vendors will receive state contracts that make it easier for schools to purchase their products. While a contract does not guarantee purchases, it gives producers access to a significant institutional market and makes purchasing local food simpler for participating schools.

How to apply:

Visit Utah’s Public Procurement Place and search for USBE-JB26254-RFP to review the requirements and submission instructions.

  • Questions due: October 16, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. MDT, through the solicitation’s Q&A process.

  • Proposals due: October 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. MDT.

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is working to connect eligible producers with this opportunity and provide technical assistance throughout the application process. Please share this opportunity with beef and tree fruit producers in your network who may be interested.

One-on-one producer assistance is available: contact UDAF’s Value Chain Coordinator, Kate Wheeler, at [email protected] or  (385)227-9584

For general questions about selling to schools or connecting with school meal programs, contact Natalie McHale, UDAF’s Farm to School Specialist, at [email protected], or Dani Perez, USBE’s Farm to School Specialist, at [email protected].gov.
